The South County Medical Group is a comprehensive network of expert specialists and primary care healthcare providers.  The group, created to provide a continuum of care for patients, currently includes primary care and the specialties listed below.

Together, these practices give patients easy access to other specialists as needed and, by working together as a cohesive team, can better manage each individual’s healthcare needs.

One way in which this is done is the sharing of the same information systems platform for patients’ Electronic Health Records (EHR).  Access to up-to-date and complete health records is vitally important in the diagnosis and treatment of injury, illness, or chronic disease.  When a person sees several different physicians for a multitude of health issues, it’s particularly important that all physicians involved be aware of all treatments being delivered.  Since most physicians do not share a database platform, this feature of the South County Medical Group members is an important point of distinction.

Behavioral Health

The Department of Behavioral Health at South County Hospital provides a range of outpatient services dedicated to mental health and well-being.  Our offerings include:

South County Hospital's cardiologists focus on providing you with the best possible cardiac care, stressing not only treatment but also preventive measures and rehabilitation. They perform a range of diagnostic tests and procedures, such as cardiac catheterization, cardioversions, and pacemaker implantation. The Hospital's state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab is used to diagnose the location and degree of heart disease, and is instrumental in determining the best treatment and therapy plan. South County Endocrinology provides specialized treatment for southern Rhode Islanders with diabetes, thyroid problems, osteoporosis, and a host of other illnesses caused by hormonal and metabolic imbalances.  Endocrine disorders often are complex and involve many parts and processes of the body, particularly the delicate balance of hormones.


General Surgery

General Surgery: General Surgeons perform a wide variety of procedures, encompassing virtually every organ, gland, and vascular system from your head to your toes. Providing critical care when you're rushed to the ER, as well as countless elective procedures that can improve your quality of life, at South County Hospital, general surgery engages the latest technology in state-of-the-art surgical suites, from minimally-invasive techniques to complex cancer surgeries.


Hospitalists: Hospitalists are dedicated to caring for patients admitted into the hospital, with a few exceptions, such as obstetrics and orthopedics. Hospitalists have more expertise in caring for complicated hospitalized patients on a daily basis and also have more time to meet with family members, follow up on tests, answer nurses' questions, and to deal with problems that may arise.

Infectious Disease and Lyme Disease Clinic

Infectious Disease and Lyme Disease Clinic: Our Infectious Disease and Lyme Disease specialist has offices in Wakefield and East Greenwich. You can be referred by your primary care physician if you have an infection that is not responding to initial treatments.

Internal Medicine

Internal medicine physicians (also called Internists) are primary care physicians who provide long-term, comprehensive care for adults. They are trained to help you manage common and complex illnesses including the diagnosis and treatment of infections, and diseases affecting the heart, blood, kidneys, joints, and digestive, respiratory and vascular systems.


Nephrology (a.k.a. renal medicine) involves the kidneys and diseases of the kidneys.  In addition to cleaning the blood of waste products, the kidneys are largely responsible for regulation of blood pressure.  As a result, nephrologists are also experts in management of hypertension (high blood pressure).  Shoreline Nephrology & Hypertension is comprised of three nephrologists who are board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.

Obstetrics and Gynecology

Obstetrics and Gynecology: The Center for Women’s Health, with seven board certified physicians and three certified nurse midwives, is dedicated to providing comprehensive women's healthcare for every stage of a woman’s life. 


Oncology/Hematology: Accredited by the Commission on Cancer, our cancer care providers offer a range of cancer services from diagnosis through treatment, recovery and rehabilitation.  The team includes board certified medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, oncology pharmacists, oncology nurse navigators, and rehabilitation experts.


Podiatry: Caring for all aspects of the foot and ankle, the South County Medical Group podiatrists are board certified and fellowship trained. The specialty of podiatry involves diagnosing and treating all problems and disease of the foot and ankle, including wound care. Prevention is a key area of this specialty.

Primary Care

Primary Care/Internal Medicine: The SCMG Primary Care/Internal Medicine providers have offices in Wakefield, and Westerly. Primary Care/Internal Medicine specializes in adult care, with a special focus on preventing and treating disease


Problems affecting the lungs and breathing are among those most disruptive to quality of life. In some cases, pulmonary disorders, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), are life-threatening.

Pulmonologists are specially trained in diseases of the chest, respiratory tract, lungs and cardio-pulmonary system—the organs that help people breathe and take in oxygen. At South County Health our board-certified pulmonologist, Muhammad Bostaji, MD, can treat a variety of breathing disorders and conditions.

Urgent Care

Urgent/Walk-in Care:  The board certified physicians in our Urgent/Walk-in Care facility in East Greenwich and Westerly can treat virtually any non-emergency need, such as lacerations, upper respiratory illnesses, sprains, sports injuries, minor accidents, sore throat, and other conditions requiring prompt attention. Urgent/Walk-in Care is open seven days a week. 

Wound Care

Wound Care: South County Hospital's Wound Care Center offers state-of-the-art therapies and the most advanced treatments available for non-healing wounds. Our team of highly trained and experienced professionals achieve superior healing outcomes -- even with wounds resistant to traditional treatments.
