Having a neonatal nurse practitioner by your side

South County Hospital has six neonatal nurse practitioners from Women & Infants Hospital on the care team. A neonatal nurse is a nursing specialist who focuses on the monitoring and care of premature or ill newborns. Our neonatal nurse practitioners have been trained and certified by the State Board of Nursing and have the experience to keep your newborn safe and healthy.

Annually, 40,000 low-birth-weight infants are born in the United States. The survival rate for these children is increased tenfold when under the care and supervision of a neonatal nurse practitioner. At South County Hospital, our neonatal nurses practitioners work closely with parents and staff members to ensure that all needs are met.  They are available to consult with you about any questions you might have about your baby’s health.

Our Women & Newborn Care Unit neonatal nurses are certified through the American Academy of Pediatrics and are NRP certified (newborn resuscitation program).
