Computer-assisted, image-guided joint replacement offers knee and hip surgery patients in Rhode Island smaller incisions, less post-operative pain and, potentially, a longer implant lifespan.

South County Hospital uses Brainlab's VectorVision technology, which acts like a GPS  for the body. Sensors pick up signals from the surgical tools and implants, as well as the patient's knee or hip, and images generated on a monitor show the surgeon the best axis and positioning for the implant. Precise positioning is essential for pain-free functioning of the joint and VectorVision allows surgeons to achieve this with extremely fine margins.
