  • Eric Buchbaum, DPM, Medical Director
    Dr. Buchbaum received his medical degree from Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Utah, VAMC-Salt Lake City. He is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr. Buchbaum’s expertise includes medicine and surgery of the foot, wound care, limb salvage, and biomechanics.

  • Roberto Capalbo, MD, Internal Medicine
    Dr. Capalbo has been practicing medicine since 1981. After receiving his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Pennsylvania, he was a resident at Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Capalbo is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
   
 
  • David Coppe, MD, General/Vascular Surgeon
    After graduating from the College of the Holy Cross, Dr. Coppe earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont. He was a surgical resident at Barnes Hospital/Washington University, St. Louis and a senior surgical resident at Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Coppe received a clinical vascular fellowship at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, England and was also a research fellow at Beth Israel Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. He has provided expert care to Rhode Islanders living in the southern part of the state since 1984, with practices in South County and Newport. 
   
 
  • Matthew Jones, MD, General Surgeon
    Dr. Jones received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed his residency in general surgery at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. In practice since 1998, he is certified by the American Board of General Surgery.

  • James McCormick, DPM, Chief of Surgery
    Dr. McCormick received his medical degree from Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and completed his residency at University of Utah, VAMC - Salt Lake City. He has been a member of the medical staff at South County Hospital since 1996 and is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He is also a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr. McCormick's expertise includes medicine and surgery of the foot, wound care, limb salvage, and biomechanics.

  • Karen Soderberg-Gomez, RNP
    Karen was awarded an associate’s degree in nursing by Community College of Rhode Island and bachelor’s and master’s degrees by the University of Rhode Island. She is a registered nurse practitioner and certified wound care nurse. Karen has been affiliated with South County Hospital since 1991.
 
 
  • Lori Curtin, RN, CWCN, Nurse Manager
    Lori holds an associate’s degree from Community College of Rhode Island and a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Connecticut State University. After starting as a cardiovascular/telemetry nurse at The Miriam Hospital, Lori served as a director of nursing and quality improvement director in long-term care. She has been with South County Hospital since 2010.
