Presenters: Dr. Gerald Colvin, medical oncologist, and Michael Weydt, RI Dept. of Health

According to the Rhode Island Department of Health (DOH), radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer, after smoking. Radon, a radioactive gas released from rocks and soil, is an invisible, odorless, tasteless gas that seeps up through the ground and diffuses into the air. The DOH reports that homes in Exeter and Richmond, RI have a higher presence of radon gas than those in other parts of the state.

Dr. Gerald Colvin, medical director of the South County Health oncology/hematology practice, and Michael Weydt, from the RI Department of Health, will present a free community lecture on what radon gas is, its cancer-causing effects, how it gets into homes, and how people can safeguard themselves against exposure. They willl answer questions such as:

  • What is radon?
  • Where does it come from?
  • Who is at risk for cancer?
  • What can I do to protect my family?

The RI DOH will distribute free radon test kits at this event, while supplies last.

This event is FREE but register online or call 401-788-3869 to reserve your space.
