Building a Solid Foundation for a Healthy Community

A note from Thomas Breen, Chief Financial Officer

I am pleased to report that South County Health (SCH) achieved a positive operating margin for the sixth consecutive year. During fiscal year 2016, South County Health completed three major strategic initiatives, including:

  • Renovation of the first floor of the Hospital’s Read Wing to support a new Cancer Center
  • Renovation of the second floor of the Hospital’s Read Wing to create a modern Women & Newborn Care Unit, supporting the services offered through the Center for Women’s Health
  • Completion of the new Medical & Wellness Center in Westerly

South County Health was able to finance these initiatives with community support and operating funds that were reserved during the previous five years. Importantly, the organization did not incur any new debt to support these initiatives. These projects build a solid foundation for South County Health to continue to meet the needs of the southern Rhode Island community well into the future.

Further, SCH continues to maintain positive financial performance and a strong balance sheet.
