South County Health goes North on Monday, June 7 to host a new golf outing at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln, RI. The Longest Drive Golf Open will boast an 18-hole best ball tournament, lunch, hosted bar and BBQ dinner.

*Proceeds from this event will help to fund upgrades to the South County Hospital Emergency Department (ED).

Planned upgrades to the South County Hospital Emergency Department will improve operational efficiency and develop a low-acuity fast track and triage unit, as well as improvements to our waiting room. Establishing a “fast-track” process for patients with urgent conditions that can be treated quickly can reduce extensive waits and improve the overall flow of patients through the ED.

South County Health Emergency Department sees over 23,000 patients a year. In the ED, it is important to identify and prioritize who requires an urgent intervention in a short time. Triage helps recognize the urgency among patients. The "fast track" process will allow us to separate patients with high- and low-acuity conditions which will significantly reduce the length of stay. Excessive length of stay in emergency departments contributes to overcrowding, patients leaving without being seen, and decreased patient satisfaction. Establishing a fast track will improve our proficiency and ensure that patients with moderate- and high-acuity conditions are seen quickly leading to improved patient outcomes.

We are locating our new Fast Track unit adjacent to triage allowing for faster flipping of bays which will help to relieve discharge delays for patients waiting for a transfer. Our fast track upgrades will also yield an additional 4-bay unit increasing our ED capacity by 16% and allow us to decrease the length of stay by 64%.
