Dr. Ian Madom brings ExcelsiusGPS to the Rhode Show

Published 02/27/2019

The future of spine surgery is here. Dr. Ian Madom, an orthopedic spine surgeon with Ortho Rhode Island, appeared on WPRI-TV 12's the Rhode Show with host Michaela Johnson to discuss the benefits to patients by using the ExcelsiusGPS robotic technology offered at South County Hospital.

The technology, offered at the South County Health Orthopedics Center, doesn’t replace a surgeon’s expertise, but is a less invasive option that allows precise placement of screws used to correct some spine conditions, and facilitates faster recovery.

“It helps a surgeon or a physician do their job better,” Dr. Madom said of ExcelsiusGPS. “We’re able to leverage the technology … but we’re still doing the surgery.”

South County Hospital is the first and only hospital in Rhode Island to offer ExcelsiusGPS for spine surgery, in partnership with Ortho Rhode Island.
