Packing for the Hospital


Women & Newborn Care Unit

It's important that you get your hospital bag ready at least two weeks before your due date in case your baby makes a surprise arrival. Here are the items you'll want to take with you:

For mom

  • Robe, sleepwear
  • Nursing bra/nursing pads
  • Extra underwear
  • Roomy, comfortable outfit to wear home
  • Sanitary pads
  • Toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, moisturizer, lip balm, makeup
  • Hair clips, elastics, brush, comb
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste

For your partner

  • Change of clothes
  • Books, magazines
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, toiletries
  • Money for food
  • A watch with a second hand for timing contractions

For baby

  • Care seat (properly installed in the car)
  • Newborn hat
  • Receiving blankets (2)
  • Going home outfit, including sweater or bunting if it is cold outside

Documents

  • Insurance card
  • Important phone numbers

  • Cell phone and charger, headphones
