At South County Health, we believe in nurturing the potential of our employees and providing opportunities for career growth. Bianca LaMotte’s journey from Patient Care Technician to Registered Nurse and soon-to-be permanent charge nurse exemplifies how our commitment to professional development and supportive culture transforms lives—both for our staff and the patients they serve. Read more about Bianca's journey, in her own words, below.
From Patient Care Technician to RN
“I started at SCH in 2019 as a PCT. I have always worked on the Women and Newborn Care Unit, though when I was per diem, I would help out on other Frost units to get more hours and support the hospital. I graduated URI with my BSN in December 2023 and started as an RN on the WNCU in February 2024. Starting later this December, I will begin as permanent charge nurse on the night shift.”
Hands-On Learning and Mentorship
“I would honestly say all of my coworkers on the WNCU have been mentors to me throughout my development journey. I was inspired by how they work as a team and provide a support system for our patients during such an important time in their lives. When I got my RN license, they were incredibly helpful in my transition and continue to teach me every day.”
SCH Support for Career Growth
“The new grad class was especially valuable when I first started my RN position. It was helpful to meet with nurse educators each month to debrief about what happened on shifts and talk things out with others. SCH’s tuition assistance also helped me through school, and now working nights, SCH works with RISLA to help pay for my student loans.”
Advice for Others
“I would say just never give up. My path to becoming an RN was not always simple and took a little longer than I would have liked, but if you put your head down and do the work, you can accomplish great things.”
Career Goals and Future Growth
“I’m looking forward to continued growth right here at SCH in my new role. I start as permanent charge nurse on the night shift on the WNCU in a few short weeks. If I choose to pursue a Master’s degree, I would also use SCH’s tuition assistance to continue my education.”
Work-Life Balance and Interests
“I have a husband, two dogs, and an almost 8-month-old daughter. When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with them. My daughter brings me great joy, and being a new mom has been a really special experience.”
Growing Together
Bianca’s story reflects SCH’s mission to empower employees through education, mentorship, and opportunity. By investing in our team’s growth, we not only help our staff reach their full potential, but we also ensure the highest quality care for our community.
