Emely Granados, RN: A Nurse Who Advocates for Every Voice
For patients navigating serious illness, the smallest moments of understanding and compassion can make the greatest difference. For one deaf patient receiving care in the ICU, nurse EmelyGranados became that source of comfort, advocacy, and connection during an incredibly difficult time.
Emely is being recognized with the DAISY Award for the extraordinary care she provided while supporting an individual diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia and later the flu.
Ensuring Every Patient Is Cared For
Navigating healthcare can be challenging for anyone, but for deaf patients, communication barriers can add an extra layer of stress and uncertainty. From the moment she began caring for this patient, Emely made it her mission to ensure he felt fully supported and understood.
She took the time to listen carefully to his concerns and advocate for the accommodations he needed. Emely consistently ensured interpreters were available and made communication a priority throughout every stage of care.
Her dedication went even further, using her own knowledge of some sign language to communicate directly with the patient whenever possible. The extra effort helped foster a sense of trust and comfort during a time when he needed it most.
Compassion That Goes Beyond Clinical Care
While Emely provided exceptional medical care for the patient’s respiratory illness, it was her kindness, patience, and empathy that truly stood out.
Anitra Galmore, Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Officer, “Emely’s care is a powerful reminder that true excellence in nursing goes beyond clinical skill—it’s rooted in empathy, advocacy, and connection. She exemplifies the kind of compassionate, patient-centered care that defines our profession at its very best.”
Her actions embody the very essence of patient-centered care, ensuring that accessibility, dignity, and compassion are always part of the healing process.
