When Anthony R. Vincent joined South County Health in June 2025 as a radiation therapist, he brought with him not only clinical expertise, but also a deep sense of purpose. Less than a year later, he stepped into a leadership role within the Radiation Oncology department—an opportunity he says was built on perseverance, teamwork, and a commitment to patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Anthony’s journey reflects the kind of professional growth South County Health strives to support: empowering employees to develop their skills, step into leadership opportunities, and help shape the future of care in our community.
Anthony’s path to healthcare was anything but traditional. Holding both a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and an Associate of Science in Radiation Therapy, along with ARRT RT(T) certification, he combines technical expertise with compassion and communication skills that help patients feel supported throughout treatment.
Before joining South County Health, Anthony built the foundation of his clinical experience at Berkshire Medical Center, where he says he learned the realities of the profession firsthand.
“Clinicals through radiation therapy school were important, but nothing compares to being fully immersed in the field,” Anthony shared. “No amount of school can fully prepare you for the actual duties of a therapist.”
That real-world experience helped prepare him for the challenges and opportunities he would encounter at South County Health.
Shortly after joining the organization, Anthony was offered the opportunity to step into a Lead Radiation Therapist role. He credits much of that growth to the support of colleagues and leaders who encouraged him along the way.
Throughout his time in the department, Anthony worked closely with fellow radiation therapist Mackenzie Meyer, navigating the challenges of a growing program while maintaining a strong focus on patient care.
“We dealt with a series of challenges but managed to get through all the trials and tribulations together,” he said.
He also points to the support of Jessica Marfeo, as well as physicians James Assif, MD and Donald Joyce, MD, for helping him build confidence in his leadership abilities and continue pushing forward.
For Anthony, the most rewarding part of the role is the connection with patients.
“I love working with the patients,” he said. “Seeing them smile during such a trying time reminds me of the importance of this role.”
That patient-centered mindset continues to motivate his long-term goals. As the Radiation Oncology department continues to expand, Anthony hopes to continue growing alongside it—with aspirations of one day becoming Chief Therapist.
He also hopes to see continued investment in the future of Radiation Oncology at South County Health, including opportunities for staff to attend national conferences like ASTRO and expansion into additional treatment offerings.
Anthony encourages colleagues interested in a similar path to stay focused and resilient, even during difficult moments.
“Always know there is light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. “Even at times where things seem insurmountable.”
Outside of work, Anthony enjoys cooking, hiking, working on cars, and spending time with his wife, Amber, and their two dogs, Bianca and Dakota.
He credits his family as a major source of support throughout his educational and professional journey.
“Amber has been my rock through school and through becoming a therapist,” he shared. “My parents were also a massive support system and encouraged me when I decided to go back to school.”
As South County Health continues to invest in employee growth and development, stories like Anthony’s highlight the impact of mentorship, opportunity, and a strong team culture in helping employees build meaningful, rewarding careers.
