South County Health was recently featured in The Independent, highlighting the importance of recognizing stroke symptoms and acting quickly in emergency situations. During Stroke Awareness Month, experts from South County Health emphasized that stroke is a medical emergency in which every minute counts, as brain cells begin to die when blood flow is interrupted.

The feature encouraged the community to remember the acronym B.E.F.A.S.T. to identify warning signs: balance issues, vision changes, facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty, and the need to call 911 immediately.

The article also noted key stroke risk factors, including high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, and high cholesterol, and highlighted the importance of prevention through healthy lifestyle choices and routine medical care. South County Health will also host a Stroke Awareness outreach event on May 14, offering education and resources to the community.
