On July 9, the South County Hospital lobby and courtyard came alive with warmth, music, and heartfelt connection as we gathered for our Cancer Survivorship Celebration 2026. This annual event honored the strength, resilience, and courage of our cancer survivors, while also celebrating the dedicated care teams, families, and friends who walk alongside them.

Guests were welcomed with the soothing piano melodies of longtime volunteer Lyn Eckhoff, setting a joyful and reflective tone for the evening. Chief Medical Officer Kevin Charpentier, MD opened the program with a warm welcome and introduced Gerald Colvin, DO Medical Director of the Cancer Center, whose heartfelt remarks underscored a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.

The evening’s most moving moments came from William Taylor, a survivor whose story of perseverance inspired everyone present, and Oncology Pharmacist Donna Gorham, whose powerful rendition of Miley Cyrus' The Climb reminded us that every step forward is worth celebrating. Jessica Marfeo shared insights into the vital role of Radiation Therapy before introducing South County Radiation Therapy Medical Director Donald Joyce, MD, whose words reflected both the science and humanity behind cancer care.

As the sun began to set, Dr. Colvin closed the evening with a symbolic flower giveaway, honoring survivors and their journeys. Guests lingered to mingle, share hugs, and exchange stories—proof that this community is bound together by more than just geography; it’s bound by hope.
