How compassionate care helped one new mom find confidence and calm during childbirth.

A Calm and Confident Start to Motherhood

When Jaliyah Harrison arrived at South County Health’s Women and Newborn Care Unit, she immediately felt something special in the bond with her nurse, Johannah Guillette, RN. “From the minute I walked in, you had this calm, positive energy that instantly put me at ease—it honestly felt like I’d known you forever,” she shared.

For Jaliyah, delivering her first baby was both exciting and overwhelming, but her care team provided the reassurance she needed to stay grounded and in control.

Guided Support Through Every Moment

Jaliyah chose to deliver naturally, trusting her body and her care team to guide her through. “Delivering naturally was intense, but you were my anchor. The way you coached me through every breath and kept me focused made all the difference,” she said. “What could have been a stressful day turned into one of the most empowering moments of my life, and that’s because of you Johannah.”

Her experience reflects the heart of South County Health’s approach to obstetric and midwifery care—personalized, compassionate support tailored to the patient’s goals and preferences.

A Birth Story Worth Sharing

Today, when Jaliyah’s friends and family ask how her birth went, she doesn’t hesitate to share her gratitude: “My friends and family keep asking how my birth went so smoothly, and I always tell them it’s thanks to your skill, patience, and kindness. You made my first birthing experience unforgettable, and I’m so grateful.”

A Team Dedicated to Every Birth Journey

Johannah said, "I’ve worked at SCH for 10 years and I have been a labor and delivery nurse since 2009.  I love what I do and wouldn’t do any other kind of nursing!  We have such a powerful impact during a time of so many mixed emotions in a woman’s life.  I love being a part of a woman and family’s experience from triage to labor to postpartum. Jaliyah was a rockstar and with the help of her partner Cameron, her grandmother, who was her doula, and Sarah West Allen, CNM, she delivered a beautiful healthy baby boy, all natural, like she wanted! Jaliyah’s strength was empowering!"

At South County Health, families like Jaliyah’s experience the difference of expert obstetric care, personalized birthing options, and a team dedicated to supporting every stage of pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
