When a birth experience doesn’t go as planned, the care team can make all the difference. For one new mom, the compassion, knowledge, and kindness of her providers at South County Health turned a surprise delivery into a moment of strength, connection, and joy. Marissa Sposato shares her story of being cared for by the SCH team including Annie Brenan, RN, Desiree DesVergnes, RN, IBCLC, Melissa Nelle, RN, Madison Paine, RN, and Kayla Rafferty, RN, through heartbreak, healing, and the arrival of her son, Lorenzo, on July 14, 2025.
From Heartbreak to Healing: A Familiar Face at a Life-Changing Moment
“Dr. Hamdi was there for me back in 2024 when I had miscarried and now fast forward to July 2025 (and my pregnancy) he delivered my baby. I truly am so grateful for Dr. Hamdi. He was so compassionate to me during everything and just an amazing human in general. He is so educated and just truly awesome.”
Support in the OR: The Nurses Who Lifted Me Up
“Melissa: she was my ROCK during my c-section, at one point I told her ‘I can't do this’ and she gave me strength and was just so comforting and compassionate.”
Nighttime Angels
“Kayla: my nurse during the nighttime. I felt like I knew her forever and we had just met. She was so good to me, my husband, and, of course, my baby boy!”
“Annie: I was struggling a little with breastfeeding and other random things during the night and I never felt embarrassed talking to her. Truly an angel.”
Heading Home with Care and Confidence
“Maddy: my nurse the day we went home. Again, felt like I knew her forever and she was just so sweet and compassionate.”
Breastfeeding Support That Made All the Difference
“Desiree: the lactation consultant, took the time to teach me so much and has made all the difference in my breastfeeding journey. I will reach out to her for a house visit as well.” Read more about Desiree here: SCH Childbirth Educators Featured on The Rhode Show
A Team That Felt Like Family
“I can honestly say everyone from the doctors, the nurses, and even to the cafeteria staff were TOP NOTCH. I am eternally grateful for all the amazing people who cared for me and my baby during this time. I will never forget it and will always think the absolute most of South County. EVERYONE showed so much compassion and a love for their job, I never felt like I was bothering anyone (no matter how many times I hit the nurse call button, haha!). They all had a part in taking care of me and my baby and I can't thank you all enough. Lorenzo's arrival was unexpected on the day it happened, and I am just so grateful to have been in Dr. Hamdi's care and all the amazing people that followed. Shout out to everyone in that operating room that day. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!”
